1.6 KiB
I host a lot of tools but some things I don't / will never host.
Prelude
Levels
When I talk about "L*", I mean level of trust:
- L0; ultimate trust, if this gets breaks (hacked, intercepted, EOL), I am toast.
- L1; high trust, if this breaks, I can recover but it will take a long time and might have repercussions that will follow or haunt me for the rest of my life.
- L2; mid-high trust, if this breaks, I can recover, nothing vital but things like verified KYC's will be in this class.
- L3; medium trust, if this breaks, I can easily recover, but friends and family might be affected.
- L4; mid-low trust, if this breaks, my social presence might be affected but that's about it.
- ...; just indication of low trust.
- L9; null trust, if this breaks, ok.
Bitwarden (L0/L1)
It's marked as L0/L1 because it contains some sensitive info but can be replaced.
I don't host my passwords.
Yes, the cloud is just someone's computer, but I trust bitwarden and it's software enough to host my passwords, TOTP and card info there.
It's a vital part of my stack and I can't access my other vital services without it.
Mail (L0)
I do host a mail server, however, I don't use it for anything but L3 and below.
Most of my finance, insurance and other obligations are routed to my mail.
Thus, losing access or data can be a pain, therefore, I use protonmail for e-mail.
Google Photos (L8/L2)
My photos are important but if it breaks, it breaks.
However, my mother's storage is important for the sentimental value.
Spotify (L9)
It's not really important if it breaks, I just really like listening to music and discovering new music.
